Remembering Mrs. Chlapecka

The Churchill  PTA would like to send our deepest condolences to the Chlapecka family as well as all those in our community who knew and loved her. Mrs. Chlapecka will be deeply missed.

A Go Fund Me campaign had been set up by Mrs. Chlapecka’s husband’s co-workers. Below is the information if you would like to participate. We will keep you informed if we learn of other ways we can support her family.

Favorite thing about working at Churchill: The kids!

Hobbies/Interests outside of school: Reading, traveling, board games, Chicago Sports.

Childhood: I was born in New Jersey and grew up in Wheaton. My favorite subject in school was reading (funny because I’m the math coach, right?). I played volleyball and basketball.

Family Life: My husband and I have one daughter. Her name is Kate. We love watching her dance and do gymnastics. Our favorite places to vacation are Ft. Myers/Sanibel Island, Florida and Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Education/Life before Churchill: I studied Education at Indiana University, and I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. I’ve been in education for 19 years. I’ve taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades as well as gifted math. I have Masters Degrees in Educational Leadership and Teaching Mathematics K-8 as well as my ESL Endorsement.

Mrs. Chlapecka will be missed greatly as she touched so many people at Churchill.

Lo que más le gusta de trabajar en Churchill: los niños!

Hobbies/Intereses fuera de la escuela: Leer, viajar, jugar juegos de mesa, deportes de Chicago.

Infancia: Naci en New Jersey y crecí en Wheaton. Mi asignatura favorita era lectura (curioso porque soy especialista en matemáticas, cierto?). Me gustaba jugar  volleyball y basketball.

Vida familiar: Mi esposo y yo tenemos una hija, Kate. nos gusta verla danzar y hacer gimnasia. Nuestros lugares favoritos para vacaciones son Ft. Myers/Sanibel Island, Florida and Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Educación /Vida antes de Churchill: Estudie educación en studied Indiana University, y siempre supe que quería ser maestra. He trabajado en el area de educación por 19 años. He enseñado en los grados 2nd, 3rd, 4th y 5th, así como matemáticas avanzada. Tengo una grado de Máster en Liderazgo Educativo y también en Matemáticas, así como mi especialidad en ESL (para trabajar con alumnos para los cuales Inglés es su segunda lengua).

Part of Our Pack – Introducing Mr. Shermak

Name/Job Title: Tim Shermak/Assistant Principal

Favorite thing about working at Churchill: I have always known Glen Ellyn to be a great community, but Churchill has really shown me how truly wonderful it is!  Our dedicated staff and involved parents make this a great school to be a part of and I feel very blessed to be a contributing member at Churchill.  I will look forward to learning more about our students and families this year. I am proud to be a part of the Timberwolves team at Churchill!

How many years have you worked at Churchill? First year at Churchill, but my 20th year in education.

Hobbies/Interests outside of school: I coach my son’s travel baseball team, I enjoy traveling with my family, visiting different parts of the country, collecting sports memorabilia and watching sports.  I am a huge Cubs, Bears and Michigan fan!

Childhood: I grew up in southwest Michigan (St. Joseph) – still have most of my family there.  My favorite subject in school was social studies – I love learning about history (still do) and math.  Growing up, I played baseball, basketball and football all through high school.  I even played college baseball at Elmhurst College (now University). I have a twin brother (Anaheim, CA) and a younger brother (St. Joseph, MI).

Family Life: I currently reside in Roselle, Illinois with my wife and two kids.  We also have a 6 year old dog, Gordy

Life before Churchill: I spent the first 19+ years of my educational career in Wood Dale District 7 as a 3rd grade teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal and building principal.  I have always enjoyed working with kids and supporting adults in the world of education.  Serving the community and doing everything we can to give ALL students an outstanding educational experience has always been a driving force for why I chose my educational career. I look forward to great things to come at Churchill

Lo que más me gusta de trabajar en Churchill: He conocido que Glen Ellyn es una comunidad buenísima, pero Churchill me ha mostrado lo maravillosa que es! Nuestros empleados y padres contribuyen a esta buenísima escuela y soy afortunado de ser un miembro que contribuye a Churchill. Espero aprender más sobre nuestros estudiantes y familias este año. ¡Estoy orgulloso de ser parte del equipo de los Timberwolves en Churchill!

¿Cuántos años has trabajado en Churchill?: Primer año en Churchill, pero mi 20th año en educación.

Aficiones/intereses fuera de la escuela: Soy un entrenador para el equipo de béisbol de mi hijo. Me gusta viajar con mi familia, visitar a diferentes partes del país, coleccionar recuerdos de deportes, y mirar deportes. ¡Soy un gran fanático de los Cubs, Bears, y Michigan!
