5th Grade Author Visit!

Churchill Elementary is delighted to welcome award-winning, author/illustrator Mark Parisi on Wednesday, May 3rd. Mr. Parisi will talk with 5th Grade students about his career as an author/illustrator and his new series Marty Pants.

Marty Pants is different from your typical middle schooler. He has the soul of an artist, and as an artist, he notices things— the kinds of things other kids don’t seem to see.

So when Marty discovers a plot on his teacher’s computer to take over the world, Marty knows this is a danger he can’t just ignore. But no one, not his best friends Parker and Roongrat or his mother, father, sister, arch-enemy, Simon, or Chief of Police Pickels, believes him.

So, it’s up to Marty to save the world—his way.

This hilarious new series follows the endearing, frazzled, embarrassed, and, ultimately, fearless footsteps of literature’s most unlikely hero—Marty Pants.

ANYONE can purchase a personalized autographed book! Please return the form (link below) to the library along with $12.99 in cash or check (payable to Churchill PTA) by Wednesday, May 3rd. If you miss that date, there will be a limited supply of autographed books available for purchase through Wednesday, May 10th on a first-come firstserved basis.

Fiction Book Project- Volunteers Needed!

Looking for a way to get involved this month, but only have an hour or two or want a flexible time commitment?

The library is looking for extra volunteers to help complete the fiction book library project. Dee Dee Aldrich and Kara Halden have been working hard in the library on transitioning all of the fiction books to be labeled by genre. Changing the labels allows students to look for a specific genre on the spine and explore other books that are within a genre that might be overlooked.  Below is a picture of what the final project will look like.

They are looking for anyone who is willing to volunteer at least 1 hour of time during the school day.

The volunteer will be taught how to remove and replace the spine labels. Even 1 hour will make difference in the library being able to complete this project before the end of the year.  Volunteers will be welcome until the project is complete.

Interested?  Please contact Dee Dee Aldrich at kaldrich@d41.org to let her know.  Thanks in advance for your help.  Remember it takes a village!

Thank You for a GREAT Night!

Wow, thank you to all who came out and all who contributed to a very fun and exciting 2016 Parent Social Fundraiser.  The final tally has not been made but in approximation, due to our guests’ generosity during our auctions, games and donations, we will add $15,000 to our funds for our Churchill students and events.

A huge thank you goes out to Village Links for providing the fun venue and delicious food.  We also thank Rob Herbold from house of Graphics for providing our invitations, posters and paddle cards in a fast and efficient manner.  A big thank you to our teachers and staff who donated fantastic items and parties for our kids!

Thank you to Kelly Hane for being a fantastic co-chair, and the reason we were online with ClickBid and the check out line went so smoothly!  It really changed the dynamic of the event.  Of course, we thank our fabulous emcee Joel Frazier for working the mic and the audience to our favor.  And a round of applause for Alan Bayert and his guitar, for sharing his talent with us.

We also thank the following tireless committee members who helped set up, solicit donors, run our games, and help organize the event:  Renee Blew, Lisa Ciosek, Sue Turner, Janet Wuertzer, Julie Boczkowski, Jessica Powell, Amanda Scanlon Frazier, Eileen Gramlich, Darci Mills, Lisa Kluge, Jen Delapaz, Katie Rice, Jodi Herbold, Susan Blatt(PTA alumni), Dennis Kalten, Christina Lavin, Karen Barrientes, Karen Keller, Mia Koslow, Wendy Garland, Stacy Witcher, Liz Vogel, Lisa Brooks, Amy Mulcare, Jen Walters, Kate Marsh, Leah Harding, Kristy Engel, Katy Bots, Michelle Jasiewicz, Tony Svach, Stephanie Vlach and Shelby Bakken.  A special thank you to Mia Koslow, Jed Shasteen, Kory Bakken and Paula & David Vilkama for help with transportation of the riser!

We could not have made this event a success without you ALL!  Go Churchill!
